Ape Theatre Company: Pills Thrills @ Automobiles Animation

Client: APE Theatre

Pills Thrills @ Automobiles is a drug-drive play aimed at 16 to 21 year olds. The play is a documentary - taken from interviews. HotBox Studios producted animation, visual effects and film for APE Theatre's Pills Thrills @ Automobiles, also pre and post production including: research and development, and post production for live performance projection.

Pills Thrills @ Automobiles tells the true story of four 18 year olds who after a weekend of drugs and sleep deprivation at a music festival - crashed horrifically on the motorway in 1997. Two of the victims died;one at the scene of the incident and one after being airlifted to Hospital. One surviving passenger witnessed the whole tragic incident with hardly a scratch;from the car crashing, through trying to save her friends lives, and finally to the burying of two of her friends. All at the age of 18. The other went into a coma, on finally recovering she asked, "Why don't boys want to kiss me anymore?". Serious drug use (toxicology .42) and sleep deprivation were the coroner's conclusion.

This play is APE's first to incorporate video and animation during the performance to complement the acting, and is expected to tour for over ten years. Pills Thrills @ Automobiles has been backed by the UK government, A.C.P.O. and debated in the House of Lords. APE were invited into the houses of parliament to discuss Pills Thrills @ Automobiles. An interim presentation and filming of Pills Thrills @ Automobiles took place at Guildhall - London in August 2003.
